Congratulations on your Graduation

Sharing a quick card for a graduation this week!  I try so hard to have them ready early, but there's always one that doesn't get done until the last minute.  The sentiment and focal die are from my beloved Verve collection (so sadly retired).  This is a go-to sketch that can be dressed up for young ladies or left more simple for male graduates.

Hello, friend!

I love the current challenge on the Ink to Paper Blog. This week's Great Cover Up challenge is to use multiple patterns.  My love for layering patterned papers was developed by using sketches, and my favorites are Julee Tilman's Mojo Monday sketches. The Mojo Monday sketches  can be found on her blog or are archived on Pinterest.  I scrolled through some of the past sketches to find suggestions for layering lots of patterns.

Melody's Great Cover Up card used a wonderful combination of patterns--all softened by vellum.  I debated about using vellum over the bright floral strip but decided to go bright, popping the blooms from Gran's Garden up with some foam tape to add just a bit of contrast from the bright florals behind them.

Happy Birthday with Ink-Blended Florals

The current Ink to Paper "What do I do with this?" challenge is to create a card with ink-blended florals.  The gorgeous Into the Blooms dies featured on Dana's lovely spring card haven't joined my stash yet---but I hope that will happen soon!  To join the fun, I die cut the medium-sized blooms from Floral Sketches and inked them from edge to edge.  They looked a  little bland, so I stamped the details and added die cut centers that were ink blended to match.  I love this variation of the sketch-y, artistic florals.  They are layered over the Quilted Tag die, and I cut the bottom of the panel with a PTI Edgers die.  I love the scalloped details along with the flowers.

Books and Coffee

The Mod Squad Challenge is to use book print as a background.  This page comes with a story.....When my son was in high school, his English class read Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway.  We purchased  the book online, and it had a rough life in his backpack---not to mention that  he did not particularly care for the story.  It was a little too beaten up to donate to the teacher for use by or loan to future students.  He was more than happy to let me 'cut it up for craft purposes'.  When he graduated from college, I covered the book in pretty wrapping paper and incorporated it into the table centerpiece despite the fact that it is now missing a few pages.  He was good-natured about the teasing he received over his 'favorite novel' being used in the centerpiece.

I followed Gina K's tutorial for using a printed page as a background.  The page was crumpled, smoothed a little and inked directly using a Distress Ink pad.  Then, the panel was die cut with a stitched rectangle which flattened it a bit.  The image and sentiment are from Stamplorations.  The image was loosely colored with AquaBlend watercolor pencils.

Never Ending Anything Goes at Stamplorations

You're so sweet

I am playing along with the latest "What do I do with this?" challenge on the Ink to Paper blog.  The challenge is to use embossing powder as an accent.  Using Butterflies and blooms, I embossed the butterfly image in gold glitter and ink blended in two shades of pink.  The image was spritzed with a little water which varied the color and added a little texture.

Plans for a hope and a future

This scripture is my absolute favorite for graduation cards, and I am sure that the young man who will receive this in honor of his college commencement also received a card bearing the same promise when he finished high school.  It's also traditional to use a May Mojo Monday sketch for grad cards!

In these times, I think it is important for all of us to know that God has good plans for our futures---grads or not!

With Sympathy

The current Great Cover Up challenge on the Ink to Paper blog is to create a layered sympathy card.  In searching through my Papertrey sets, the   beautiful Risen stamps and dies caught my eye.  I couldn't resist echoing the beautiful yellow and blue scheme that Melissa used in her sample.

Mother's Day Wishes

Feathered Friends Nine was included in my most recent Ink to Paper order along with two new inks:  Scarlet Jewel and Autumn Rose.  The bird was cut from white card stock and inked in pretty shades of pink.  I added plenty of Wink of Stella for some sparkle and added layers of foliage from Birthday Bouquet.

Wishing you a wonderful week to come,

Christine
